Words – Kevin Cadwallender
Music – Matt Cadwallender
Matt Cadwallender is a multi instrumentalist who plays and writes the songs with his sister Nishani in the excellent band Joe Byrne, who can be found on www.myspace.com/joebyrneband. He is also a graphic artist. This piece was recorded before all that, when he was sixteen. On it he plays all guitars. He lives in Sunderland.
Kevin Cadwallender is a poet and writer who has published quite a lot of books. On this he plays keyboard, reads his poems and produces it with Matt. He was shortlisted for a Sony Radio Award for his BBC Radio 4 Soundscape Production of ‘Voyages’ and is Scottish Commissioning Editor for Red Squirrel Press.
"This abridged version of the ‘Baz’ poems was first commissioned by the Hydrogen Jukebox which was run by the poets Andy Willoughby and Jo Colley at Darlington Arts Centre.
The collaboration between me and my son was determined by that commission which had a time limit of circa twenty minutes.
It was performed live at that venue. This is a later recording done at the studio I used to have in Sunderland and produced on Adobe Audition software."
Song snippets include:
‘Skinhead Moonstomp’ by Symarip
(based on the Derrick Morgan song, "Moon Hop")
‘A Hard Days Nigh’t by Goldie Hawn (Lennon-McCartney)
‘Hey Baby’ by No Doubt
(Gwen Stefani, Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont, and Bounty Killer)
‘Das Lied der Deutschen’
(music by Joseph Haydn)
‘You’re the One that I Want’ from the musical ‘Grease’
John Travolta and Olivia Newton John (John Farrar )
'It’s a Mad World' originally by Tears for Fears (Roland Orzabal)
'Whiter Shade of Pale' by Procol Harum (Brooker-Reid)

On this recording, Shabnam Cadwallender reads on ‘Deborah Rah Rah Rah’ and sings on ‘Baz Karaoke’. Charlie Cadwallender’s voice plays the child’s voice (she was four). Matt’s voice is heard too.
